May 2024

Totland bowls club is in danger of having a number of its players getting to county finals this season.

Let's start with the Ladies. Both Julie Johnson's triples and Carol Bray's triples are through to the quarter finals. A great achievement so far by both teams. On Wednesday 29th May they hope to go a step further and reach the semi finals. Julie's team play at home against Debbie Crews triple from Plessey. Carol and her teammates travel to Ryde Marina where they will face Sheila Cawdell's trio. Let's wish them all the best and go along to support them where we can.

Now the men. Unfortunately Steve Crockett was an embarrassment to himself and our club.. Not only did he blow an 11 - 3  lead against ex England international Dave King from Sandown , he unforgivably delivered TWO wrong bias bowls in the process . He quite deservedly lost the match 21 - 19 . What a plonker !

However, Dave King now has to face our very own Richard Matthews in the next round of the county singles on Thursday June 6th at Sandown. Well done Richard. Win this one and it's quarter finals next round. Come on Richard.

Before I move on. I am not sure how many folk at our club are aware that young Bertie Everson won the county singles a few years back. That really was something to achieve , especially bearing in mind the calibre of opponents he faced.

Other matches to watch out for :

Friday May 31st. 6pm : Bertie , Keith and Peter Dent take on Maurice Kane's Ventnor team at home in the second round of county triples .

Sunday Jun 2nd          : Carol Bray, Ann Freeman & Julie Johnstone are all competing in the 1st Rd of the County Singles. Carol at Sandown B.C. Julie & Ann at Newport B.C.

Monday Jun 3rd. 6pm : Richard, Bob Everson and Mike Lord take on Steve Morris's away at  Cowes Medina in the 1st Rd of the County Triples.

Friday Jun 7th. 6pm    : Richard, Peter Dent, Steve Freeman and Mike Lord take on Ian Hampshire's of Newport B.C at home in the 2nd Rd of the County Fours.

Friday June 7th           : Carol Bray and Ann Freeman plus partners are competing in the 1st Rd of the County Pairs. Carol at home and Ann at Plessey.

In the national mixed pairs, Sue Pragnell showed once again that you are never too old to find something you are good at ... ( Oh boy , I'm  in trouble now ). Sue carried her ailing partner throughout their first round match, running out 22 -12 winners. They face Anne Bernard and Ron Leleaux in the next round .

A fantastic set of results . Well done everyone . Keep it going !!!
